Reepham Low Carbon Community Challenge

The Bircham Centre

The Bircham Centre

Project Description

To reduce the running costs and, therefore, the carbon footprint of the Centre by replacing the old and inefficient heating and lighting systems with energy-efficient heating and lighting. In addition, secondary double glazing was installed in three key rooms.

Benefits

Since the Centre is largely funded through the generosity of the community, reduction in running costs will benefit all the town. The Centre is already the most used public building in the town centre. We hope that modern heating and lighting will make it more popular as well as being in the forefront of the local carbon reduction initiative.

Implementation

The trustees of the Centre voted to become a Reepham LCCC project. As the Centre is a historic building, listed building consent had to be obtained. Energy-efficient heating and lighting systems were installed throughout the building. The double glazing units were approved by the Conservation Department of Broadland DC.
