Reepham Low Carbon Community Challenge

Allotments

Allotments

Project Description

At the start of 2010,  Reepham had seventy households on the waiting list for allotments - 6% of all households in the town.

The Reepham LCCC allotments project provides land for allotments and associated infrastructure to meet the needs of Reepham residents who wish to grow their own vegetables and fruit.

Benefits

The Reepham LCCC allotments project is very much the "heart and soul" of the Reepham LCCC projects, as it involves many residents on a regular basis. Benefits of the project include locally grown food, a healthier lifestyle and supporting a new social/community group with a common vision (RALGA - Reepham Allotments and Leisure Gardeners Association)

Implementation

Reepham Parochial Church Council have offered a three acre site for Reepham allotments. The site (Stoney Lane) has been divided into allotment plots, which are being allocated to residents on the waiting list.  Residents have started to prepare and plant their new allotments. Infrastructure such as bore hole water and composting toilets are planned for the site.

A second new allotment site (Fiddlers Lane) has now been secured and an access track created.

The two new allotment sites - Stoney Lane and Fiddlers Lane meet the needs of all seventy households on the waiting list for allotments in Reepham.
